What do ESSC Committees do?

Committees are supplemental bodies that serve the purpose of going into more depth on issues that the capacity of the coalition cannot address and are focused on sub-topics or more specific areas of environmental concern.

Committee Creation Procedures

COMMITTEE APPROVAL CRITERIA (SECTION 7.1  OF THE PROCEDURES MANUAL)

  • Committees shall be approved by the Board of Representatives and proposed by any of the following: executive panel, fellow board member, or any member organization representative.
  • The public should also have discretion in suggesting committee creation, if reasonable participation by member organizations is foreseeable, that should be deemed appropriate.

COMMITTEE ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (SECTION 7.2 OF THE PROCEDURES MANUAL)

  • Committees created should be relevant to the environmental and sustainable scope of the coalition, and should not address issues that are irrelevant to the Coalition’s focus.
  • These supplemental committees should serve the purpose of going into more depth on issues that the capacity of the coalition cannot address.
  • Committees are to be more focused on sub-topics or more specific areas of environmental concern to be addressed.

  • PROGRAMMATIC COMMITTEES
  • Programmatic committees are responsible for much of the Coalition’s administrative work for events. This may include, but is not limited to, tasks such as ordering supplies, recruiting volunteers, designing, printing, and distributing flyers, reserving venues, managing event registration, and creating an attendance roster that includes the names of attendees, their emails, preferred pronouns, and titles.
  • STANDING COMMITTEES
  • Standing committees are permanent subunits of the Coalition designed to enhance its overall function in a particular area. These committees have designated responsibilities and power over a specified domain.

  • RESEARCH COMMITTEES
  • Research committees are responsible for coordinating research on topics relevant to the Coalition. These committees are created to address a need for information regarding specific topics.

  • AD-HOC COMMITTEES
  • An ad-hoc committee is created for the purpose of performing a specific task or solving a certain problem, usually on a short-term basis. Once that task has been completed, the ad-hoc committee is dissolved.
  • FACULTY ADVISORY COMMITTEES
  • Faculty advisory committees shall consist of faculty members who advise the Coalition on a certain topic. Faculty advisory committees shall undergo a different selection process than other committees, with faculty members selected by a simple majority vote of the Executive Panel.
  • CAMPUS ADMINISTRATIVE ADVISORY COMMITTEES
  • Campus Administrative advisory committees shall consist of campus administrators who advise the Coalition on a certain topic. Campus Administrative advisory committees shall undergo a different selection process than other committees, with faculty members selected by a simple majority vote of the Executive Panel. 
  • CAMPUS FACILITIES ADVISORY COMMITTEES
  • Campus Facilities advisory committees shall consist of campus administrators who advise the Coalition on a certain topic. Campus Facilities advisory committees shall undergo a different selection process than other committees, with faculty members selected by a simple majority vote of the Executive Panel.​​​​
